Still, if you like your roads to be asphalt-free and want to take your racing off the beaten path, you should definitely take ATV Offroad Fury 4 out for a joyride.Select your favorite ATV, or for the first time in franchise history, MX Bikes, Buggies, and Trophy Trucks to race through 72 tenacious tracks on six different continents en route to the checkered flag. The only real drawback is that, despite all of those cool extras, there's not really anything that will bring in a new batch of fans. There are extras on top of extras, rounding out what is already a great arcade racing experience. For fans of the series, ATV Offroad Fury 4 is just about everything they could ask for in an ATV game. Online games are easy enough to get set up, and I didn't run into any major problems with lag or disconnects during my time with the game's multiplayer. Players can race online against other PS2 owners, though, in either head-to-head action or tournament play. Sadly, that feature seems to be forever relegated to the world of online poker. PS2 and PSP offroaders also share an online community with message boards and worldwide rankings, although there's still no way for PS2 and PSP players to actually race against each other. By hooking the PSP up to the PS2, players can swap out tracks, vehicles and more between the two systems. Both games feature a lot of cross-platform connectivity. Gamers get an added bonus if they also own ATV Offroad Fury Pro for the PSP. Still, it's nice to see something new added to the experience. It's basically just an excuse to push the player through a series of races, earning money to buy more stuff. There's not really much of a plot, as the player basically joins up with a team of riders, racing all over the world and working up through the ranks in a quest to win the championship title. Each vehicle has its own feel on the road, but they all share the smooth, comfortable controls that make racing a breeze.Īnother new feature in ATV Offroad Fury 4 is the addition of a new story mode. One of the big selling points of ATV Offroad Fury 3 was the large amount of extra content the developers managed to pack into the game. The character and vehicle models are sharp, the tracks look great, and the animations do an excellent job of conveying a real sense of speed. The graphics and sounds have also been polished up quite a bit from the last game. The game's controls are simple enough for novice players to jump right into, but also have enough little intricacies to keep the interest of more experienced racing enthusiasts. Now Sony and Climax are going to the well one more time with the release of ATV Offroad Fury 4, but does the franchise still have enough gas in the tank to grab gamers' attention for another year? ATV Offroad Fury 4 does an impressive job of adding to what made the previous game such a hit. On the PS2, one of the more popular of these has been Sony's ATV Offroad Fury franchise. From professional wrestling to paintball to fishing, consoles have seen more than their fair share of niche-market sports games.
